Tips & Tricks For Transitional Layering

22nd Aug 2017 / By Guest Contributor

August is like the Sunday of summer. It’s the last month before the fall season officially begins, and despite the heat we’re all dreaming of cooler days and even cooler outfits. The key to mastering the in-between-seasons style is layering and combining elements of both summer and fall. So, when the weather is up and down, hot and cold, you can find security in the common ground that is your transitional wardrobe. Take your style cue from our street chic stylists below!

LOOK: EASE OF ATHLEISURE

Laidback Luxe

If Janea’s comfy but totally polished outfit doesn’t put the hearts in your eyes, we don’t know what will. The Side Stripe Trouser lends a sophisticated, yet effortless approach to this Relaxed Sweatshirt. While both the trousers and top have a relaxed silhouette, the Shirah Heeled Sandal ties the whole look together for a trendy and elevated look that’s equal parts cozy and chic. In this case, her look is pretty warm so adding the shades, hoops, and heeled sandals, gives it the perfect dose of summer. Remember, transitional layering is all about combining elements from both seasons!

LOOK: STORY IN SILVER

Silver Sensation

Katelyn’s bringing the fierce with this trendy outfit that’s perfect for late summer, early fall. The Wrap Bodysuit is perfect for any season with its long sleeves and side slit details that appeal to both warm and cool weather. Since she’s wearing a mini skirt, adding an additional layer like the Faux Leather Biker Jacket really gives her look that ready-for-fall feel. The lace-up Emmille heel is also a nice touch with its lush faux suede construction. Textured elements are a cold weather staple, making them ideal for transitional layers.

LOOK: FEEL THE FLARE

Ruffle Road Ahead

For major autumn vibes think long layers and a touch of volume. Case and point, Maureen’s outfit. The long Belted Cardigan paired with the Ruffle Hem Pant makes for an uber chic style that’s perfect for early fall. Meanwhile, the open toe shootie and off the shoulder top reveal just enough skin to give this look a subtle hint of summer. (Again, with the warm and cold weather elements!)

Working For The Weekend

Rita’s look is great for both a seasonal transition as well as a day-to-night transition. The Pleated Back Blazer adds polish and sophistication to this otherwise trendy and sexy style, making it more work appropriate. Once the sun goes down, ditch the blazer for the perfect night out look. Now, if we’re talking a seasonal transition, this is a good example of how the simple addition of a jacket can instantly take your look from summer to fall.

LOOK: CARDI PARTY

Cozy, Sexy, Cool

When thinking about transitional weather, one can’t help but be excited for the re-introduction of cozy and comfy styles, and Sauncia’s outfit is right on point! These French Terry Track Pants look so cozy, and if you think something like this is too casual, just add a heel! The lace-up Marye Heeled Sandal instantly elevates this look in a way that is both chic and totally irresistible. (Not to mention it brings in the summer element.)  The Belted Cardigan also works to elevate the casual nature of the X-Front Tee. Layering in this way can be great for taking a more relaxed look and making it more stylish and sophisticated.
