While it’s always nice to live in the moment, we’re constantly finding ourselves reaching for some super-cool trend from the past. Whether it’s a vintage clothing trend, old-school décor style, or retro makeup look, we’re big believers that a little throwback here and there is always a good idea. Inspired? We thought so. Give your makeup look a modern retro touch with the DIY tips below.
The Cool Cat Eye
The cat eye is a crafty little look that every stylish lady should have in her beauty arsenal. And while it’s not the easiest to master on the first try, once you get it right, you’ll be rockin’ it from morning to midnight like a pro.
Do it Yourself:
Step 1: Draw a line at an angle
Lower your lid so you have a smooth surface to draw on. Draw a line from the outer corner of your eye at an angle going up. Make the line longer and sharper than you’d think.
Step 2: Make a triangle
Make a triangle shape by connecting the top of your flick to your lash line.
Step 3: Fill in the triangle
Use your liquid liner to fill in the triangle. Be sure to layer up so the color is smooth and clean.
Step 4: Connect the triangle to your lash
Smooth the area where the triangle meets your lash.
Step 5: Touch things up
If you didn’t get it perfect the first time, don’t fret. Simply dip a Q-tip in makeup remover or Vaseline to erase any smudges or areas you want to sharpen up.
Step 6: Finish with mascara
Wait for the liner to dry, and finish with a few sweeps of mascara.
A Perfectly Pointed Pout
There’s nothing like a pouty red lip. Classic in its own right, a perfectly lined red lip makes an impression on impact and is the epitome of retro glam.
Do it Yourself:
Step 1: Line your Lips
Line your lips with a berry lipliner just outside their natural edge. Be careful not to go too far outside or you’ll look more clown-ish and less chic-ish.
Step 2: Fill with Lipstick
Once your liner’s perfect, color inside the lines with a long-lasting red lipstick. Pucker with a napkin in between your lips to keep the color off your teeth.
Bolder-than-Bold Brows
A thick (and perfectly groomed brow) is one of the hottest trends of the moment. But while it’s currently trending, this look really became popular long ago. And while it may seem like a job only pros should do, it’s actually easy to DIY.
Do it Yourself:
Step 1: Add some color
Pick up a great colored brow gel or powder that matches your natural brow color. Start from the inside of the brow and use short, soft strokes to add dimension. Move towards the end of the brow.
Step 2: Fill
Finish the look with a brow pencil. Outline the top and bottom portion of your browns and fill in the center space with light upward strokes. Move the pencil in the direction of the hair for a flawless finish.
