Taking The World By Style: New Orleans

1st May 2016 / By Guest Contributor

Hey everyone, Hamsa here! We’re back with another series of Taking The World By Style. As you may know, every season we travel to a city that influenced our collection. Last season’s modern bohemian collection took us to Barcelona where we experienced the wonder of Gaudi’s architecture and charcoaled oysters. This season, we’re taking you to the streets of New Orleans to show off this summer’s exotic prints and bold colors!

As we traveled through NOLA (a short abbreviation used by natives) we were inspired by the vibrant colors and the rich culture that is rooted in the heart of the city. Take a look at some of the amazing behind-the-scenes we captured.

We shot in three different locations in the span of seven days – the French Quarter otherwise known as Vieux Carré, the colorful streets of Shotgun Homes, and an 1800s Victorian home in the Garden District (the 3rd floor was claimed to be haunted).

One of the days we spent shooting with a local JustFab ambassador. As we walked around the lively city, we were able to experience the French Quarter Festival that embodied good times and jazz music. We explored areas like Jackson Square where there was music and dancing on the daily. Beads would be thrown at on-comers as they parade through Bourbon Street in a celebratory manor. Everyone was full of glee and we just really felt that true sense of laidback southern living.

The weather was quite temperamental – one minute was hot and steamy and before we knew it, rain and thunderstorms helped us up our umbrella skills. Our small but mighty team made the best of it, which wasn’t too difficult considering the lush greenery surrounding us. All in all, we walked over 38 miles. It was a refreshing shift from always driving in Los Angeles.

Now let’s get to the food – OMG. It was delicious! From Po’ Boys to fried chicken (an absolute must) to crawfish, it lived up to the hype of southern comfort food – now I know what everyone’s always raving about! Fresh seafood was in abundance and oysters were a big thing. One thing that caught my eye was live crawfish on Bourbon street right in front of a restaurant. As you can see, they’re big crawfish lovers. Hand grenades and hurricanes are classic NOLA cocktails for the adventurous. But be wary – these are no joke! An absolute must-try restaurant is Café Du Monde’s café au lait and beignet combo.

What makes this city so magical is the tangible spirit in the air. Though it’s best known for its annual Mardi Gras festivities, beads, flags, and colors decorate this city year round. Vibrant and alive, there’s always jazz music playing in the streets and an immense amount of street art to gaze at while taking a stroll. Some key trends to note are : easy, breezy silhouettes, bold hues, and effortless styling.

We hope you enjoyed our behind-the-scenes. Now get inspired by our summer collection N’awlins style!

Til’ next time!
