We’re very excited to announce that this week’s episode of Project Runway will feature guest judge and JustFab’s very own, Yuchin Mao!
Yuchin will be sitting in on the judge panel during the JustFab challenge episode of Project Runway, airing this Thursday, October 1st at 9/8c on Lifetime. As the Fashion Director of JustFab, Yuchin oversees the entire design team, which includes apparel, footwear and accessories and loves life at JustFab because she’s able to “design for so many different style profiles,” which makes it fun!
We caught up with Yuchin after the set of the show to chat about her guest judging experience on Project Runway. Read our exclusive interview below and be sure to tune in tonight to catch Yuchin Mao on Project Runway.
What’s the most memorable moment you had on set? Getting re-acquainted with Tim…I knew him from over 20 years ago…knew him from when he served as faculty for Parsons The New School for Design. He’s very personable and has a great memory, so we had a lot of fun chatting about life before Project Runway and JustFab!
Tim Gunn always advises the contestants to use the JustFab accessory wall thoughtfully. How much of an impact does choosing the right accessories make on the overall runway look? It can possibly make or break the look. You want the design to ultimately stand out; the design to ultimately be cohesive. Choosing the right accessories is really crucial.
What advice would you like to share to other aspiring designers? Do push the envelope while staying true to yourself, but don’t neglect the customer’s need; they’re ultimately your boss.
Would you guest judge for Project Runway again? Sure, it was nerve wracking to say the least, but I did enjoy being “made up” and speak my mind.
What inspires you the most as a designer? Stay true to yourself while being imaginative in other people’s shoes (i.e. Trying to imagine being a bombshell… while designing an outfit for them)
Which JustFab style profile are you? A mixture depending on the occasion and my mood. Today, I’m wearing a very easy and simple dress, so I’m a Girl Next Door with a bit of Modern Classic. When I go out this Friday night, I’ll be a Trendsetter, and for our Christmas party – Bombshell for sure! Sometimes during the weekends, I’m a Femme Nouveau as I venture into more flirty dresses.
How will you be watching the JustFab Challenge episode on Project Runway? I’ll be watching the episode with my family. It’ll be fun to watch my husband’s reaction and how my 2 1/2 year old daughter will react to seeing me on television.
