DIY: Sandal Organizer in 7 Easy Steps

19th Jun 2014 / By Guest Contributor

With Summer in full swing I have been struggling to keep my sandals organized in my closet. After I wear a pair it usually ends up in a pile at the base of my closet… which is a major fail! I felt that it was time to get organized and give my beloved sandals a proper place in my closet with the rest of my prized shoe collection. Check out this easy DIY 7 step tutorial on how I got organized and created individual sandal hangers!

Supplies Needed:

  • Wire hangers
  • Bright Color or Patterned Fabric
  • Wire Bender/Cutter
  • Fabric Glue
  • Rhinestones or broken jewelry pieces (optional – if you want some bling!)

Step 1: Cut the bottom corners of the wire hanger using your wire cutters.
Step 2: Bend the hanger up at the center of each side to create a hook for each sandal.
Step 3: Using your wire bender, bend each side at the ends to create an accented swirl.
Step 4: Cut your desired fabric into 7-8 inch strips (depending on size of the hanger) and drape the strip over the top of the neck of the hanger allowing both ends of the strip to drape behind.
Step 5: Glue the back of the fabric and fold the draped pieces over onto the glues section to adhere the ends to the back of the hanger. Wait 5-10 for glue to dry.
Step 6: Once glue is dried, take your desired rhinestones or jewelry piece and glue the back. Adhere the statement piece to the front of the hanger. Wait 5-10 minutes for glue to dry.
Step 7: Slide toe divider of sandal on each end of the hanger and voila! You have made individual hangers for your sandals.

Feel free to display these beauties on a rod in your closet or even purchase a tension rod at your local hardware store, suspend between 2 walls at the base of your closet and create a new space for your sandal collection.
