Daisy’s Dish: Million Dollar Manis on Good Morning America

Chip free nails truly make the world go round don’t they? That’s why I was so excited when I recently got a call to be on Good Morning America and give tips on how to get that perfect salon manicure look at home. You’ll never feel busted nail shame again with my 7 beauty tips on getting a Million Dollar (looking) Manicure at Home.

  1. Wipe Nailbed Clean: Before you begin to polish your nails, you want to make sure that you remove any excess oils, lotions, or water from the nail bed. You can wipe it dry with acetone and a cotton ball, or even the new nail polish remover wipes on the go. Product suggestion: Forever 21 Nail Polish Remover Wipes
  2. Be a Triple Threat: Applying a fresh base coat BEFORE you apply the colored nail polish AND a top coat after is your foundation to freedom. This pretty polish sandwich works as a formula for success. Daily applications of top coat can really keep your home mani looking professional and salon worthy. Stash an extra bottle in your desk or your purse when you’re on the go. A few seconds can save your mani for days & days. Product suggestion: Sally Hansen Double Dute Base & Top Coat
  3. Pretty The Edge: We all know the importance of smoothing the polish on top of the nail, but never ever forget the edge. It’s like your final way to seal the nail deal. Apply your nail polish and top coat to the edge of the nail for extra security and safety. This can really help extend the manicure. Product suggestion: JustFab Kiss & Tell Duo
  4. Shine On Sister: My best kept secret is cuticle oil. It hydrates nails, helps to prevent splitting, moisturizes your cuticles, and can bring an instant boost to an old polish job. Product suggestion: Carol’s Daughter Lemon & Jojoba Cuticle Oil
  5. Cool Out: Give your pretty fingertips an ice bath in a bowl. This helps to dry the nails faster, and lock in the layers of polish.
  6. Beauty Rest: Store your polishes in a dark cool place in your home like, surprise, surprise…the refrigerator. I like to stash by color category in ziploc baggies or in the dairy or lunch meat compartments.
  7. Glove Love: Wearing gloves while washing dishes & cleaning the bathroom can truly extend the life of your manicure. Water damage makes nails chip terribly. I like the sassy hot pink styles to bring some glam to the sink. Product suggestion: Casabella Water Stop Gloves
