Whether you’re newly smitten or in it for the long haul, finding new date ideas can be a challenge, especially when trying to stick to a budget. May is National Date Your Mate Month, so to celebrate, here are a couple fun and frugal date ideas to help keep things fresh without breaking the bank!
Connect with nature: Whether you’re located in a city or a small town, Mother Earth can provide some pretty great entertainment: take a walk in a local park, find a nearby trail to hike, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, try renting a tandem kayak or a couple surfboards for some waterborne fun.
Get crafty: If you live together, tackle a DIY project for the house or apartment. If not, try making a fun gift for each other with affordable craft supplies (popsicle sticks, anyone?). Even if the project you make is more of a #pinterestfail, you’re sure to make some great memories along the way.
Just relax: Schedule in some much-needed R&R with an at-home spa session. Turn off your phones, light some candles, draw a bubble bath, sip some bubbly, and treat each other to a relaxing massage. Enjoy the intimate moments spent pampering each other.
Play tourist: Discover your city together! No matter how small your town is, every city boasts its own local attractions and hidden gems that make for a fun day of exploring. Alternately, if your hometowns aren’t too far away, take a trip down memory lane by taking turns touring your old stomping grounds.
Share your passions: Whether it’s drawing, writing, playing a sport, or practicing an instrument, teaching your honey about your favorite hobby is a great way to grow closer. Plus, you’re bound to learn something new in the process – and not just about each other!
In the end, it shouldn’t matter what you and your sweetheart end up doing as long as you’re enjoying one another’s company; that’s what Date You Mate Month is all about! A personal frugal favorite of mine is having “art night” with a bottle of cheap champagne and some painting supplies. So fun! What’s the best cheap date you’ve ever been on?
