Time To Shine: Add To Your Outfit With Metal Accents

10th Nov 2013 / By Guest Contributor

Fall temperatures are finally upon us, and it’s time to start wearing all of the fabulous fall fashions we have been dying to bust out. From emerald green to cherry red, leathers to colored furs, and ladylike to ’90s grunge, there is one accessory trend that pretty much works with them all…metal accents. I love when you find a trend that is as diverse and versatile as this one. Regardless of your go-to look, color or fabric, you will certainly be able to find a way to incorporate this trend into any of your outfits.

One of my absolute favorite collections this season was Saint Laurent’s. Head designer, Hedi Slimane, turned out a collection full of ’90s grunge-inspired baby doll dresses, over-sized cardigans and, of course, combat boots adorned with metal studs, buckles and chains. Of course, the combat boot is the must-have shoe for any grunge look, and I really appreciate the addition of metal accents to give the look a bit of polish.

I have long been a fan of the ladylike trend, and I am so happy to see it sticking around. However, I do think it’s important to mix up this sophisticated and feminine look by adding a little edge. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love adding a studded cropped leather jacket to a feminine dress, but this season, there is another option…studded pointy toe pumps! Just this slight touch of metal really turns up the volume on a ladylike dress, taking the look from pretty to stylish.

We saw so many great textures and colors on the runway this season…everything from leather, exotic skins, wild furs and mohair to bright emerald greens, berry tones, bright cherry hues, and so on. With so much happening in our clothing, it’s important to find the right accessories. Sometimes a basic leather shoe can feel too dull, and a bright color can feel overkill. Choosing shoes and bags that have metal accents can really complement a lot of these extreme textures and colors and elevate your look tremendously.

Of course, these little metal accents can also add so much to your most basic outfits. Just a simple gold buckle on an ankle boot or a studded black tote can take your basic skinny jean and turtleneck look from boring to bold.

I hope you have fun playing with all of the great metal accents this season…I know I will!

Xoxo,

Nina
