July is National Ice Cream Month and I thought, what better way to celebrate than to combine 2 of my favorite things: nail polish and ice-cream?! Read on to see how I used the tasty treat as inspiration for my latest nail art creation, and a few more ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Best of all, these manis are calorie and guilt-free.
To prep, I gathered my favorite ice cream inspired colors, such as pink, white and some more bright shades to use for the sprinkles. Make sure you have enough space, and lay down a paper towel or 2 to avoid any spills on your surface. Also, grab a fine tipped brush for details! Start with clean, dry nails and be sure to buff away any snags or imperfections. I love using a 2-in-1 top and base coat. Not only do they save space, but you also get more for your beauty budget. Let’s get started!
Step 1) Apply your base coat and allow it to dry 1-2 minutes. Paint the entire nail with your main color, which will be your ‘ice-cream’.
Step 2) Add your ‘whipped-cream’ with a white polish. Feel free to move the brush around to make it look wavy. It doesn’t have to be perfect, remember, it’s supposed to look fluffy!
Step 3) Take a piece of card stock or paper plate and add a few drops of each color that you would like to use for sprinkles. This will keep your bottles of polish from drying out and keep your colors handy for your creation.
Step 4) Using your fine tipped brush, apply your sprinkles in short, quick strokes. Feel free to play, make them in different directions and colors. I alternated my colors for a fun effect.
Quick tip: Allow your top coat to dry 1-2 minutes, and allow similar drying time between color steps to avoid smudges.
Step 5) Lastly, allow everything to dry for a few minutes before sealing it with your btop coat for lasting shine.
Voila, you now have a sweet mani you can show off!
