Stop and Smell the Roses: The Meaning of Rose Colors

Did you know that June is National Rose Month? This holiday is to appreciate the rose, its species, and offerings. Plus, in 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation stating that the rose in the National Floral Emblem. With all of the different kinds and colors of roses, it’s hard to keep up, and sometimes difficult to choose what kind of rose to plant or give. Here’s a color chart and meanings to help you choose the perfect colored roses:

Need a few ideas on how to celebrate Rose Month? Check out our suggestions:

  • Start your own rose garden, or contribute to a community garden by planting your favorite colored roses.
  • Host a garden party, and wear your new sun dress with your fabulous floral pumps, of course.
  • Try a new beauty product! Used topically, rose water can aid in lightening dark circles, clearing pores, and diminishing redness. Also, in India, people use rose water as eye drops to clear them.
  • Drink rose hip tea. Rose hips contain a ton of vitamin C, and some A, B and antioxidants.
