My Rich Girl on a Real Girl Budget series was brought to major life at this year’s 9th Annual Design On A Dime benefit. Every year, Housing Works hosts this phenomenal shopping event that selects top interior designers to design fantastic dream-come-true-worthy rooms. Everything in the rooms is donated by high-end companies and available for purchase at majorly discounted prices during the public event.
From couches and plush pillows to crocodile chairs, everything is super cheap. A $10,000 couch sold for 70% off; there were even items for as low as $8! All of the proceeds go to charity, and all of the style comes home with you.
In the spirit of my rich girl style/real girl budget, instead of buying a new outfit, I saved some cash and tapped RentTheRunway.com to borrow an Issa dress for the private opening night reception. I literally fell in love over and over again as I walked into rooms designed by gurus including Nicole Gibbons of So Haute Style, HGTV’s Danielle Colding and Tyler Wisler of HGTV’s Design Star.
Good Morning America‘s Lara Spencer partnered with One Kings Lane and shared how you can save and spruce up your home with tips like using solid fabrics instead of printed fabrics that require more precise matching.
As I was interviewing Danielle, it felt like a horse race, as shoppers literally devoured her room snagging every item. It’s a good kind of tackle, actually, because all of the fabulous items were purchased, and the proceeds benefited the homeless and those in need with AIDS.
