Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to let your nails do the talking. No matter what you want your nails to say, here are a few of my favorite looks for the Day of Love.
LADIES IN LEATHER
Nothing is sexier than a woman in leather, and lucky for us, you can get this look on your nails now, too! Nails inc. has created the limited-edition Bling It On Leather & Skulls. This easy-to-use polish applies glossy but dries to a matte, leathery texture. Customize your look by adding the crystal skull embellishments.
LOVELY IN LACE
If you like a softer, more romantic look, then try the look of lace. Use Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips to get a fabulously effortless patterned nail. I love using ‘Laced Up.’ Try pairing it with a dark red accent nail – I recommend Wicked by Essie.
NEWSWORTHY NAILS
You can also try Sally Hansen Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in ‘Love Letter‘ for a uniquely romantic look – or create your own (we did!). These DIY nails start out with a solid base color – think hot pink, white or baby pink. Cut sections out of a newspaper that you want to transfer to your nails. After the nails dry completely, dip them in alcohol for a few seconds. Place the clippings over your nails, print side down. Gently peel away the newspaper. Finish the look with a top coat.
HOLY DECALS!
Decals are also an easy way to create different customizable looks. They are little stickers that can be placed anywhere on the nail. JOBY nail art has fun decals as well as a gemstone collection (gotta love that sparkle!). Just paint your nails a solid color. While they’re still tacky, gently press on the decal where you want it. Make sure they stay in place by securing with a top coat.
JAZZ HANDS
Of course you can’t go wrong with a fun shimmering glitter manicure. Azature, the man who brought you the world’s most expensive nail polish as seen on Kelly Osbourne at last year’s Emmy Awards, has come out with new layered glitters. I love the new Red Diamond shade. Each bottle contains a real black diamond!
For a fun, unexpected pop of color and texture, try the Pixie Dust collection from Zoya. This innovative polish dries matte with a sparkling, ‘sugary’ finish. This polish is used alone – no base or top coat necessary. Just apply 1-3 coats allowing the polish to dry in between. It may take a little bit longer to dry, but the textured effect is worth it. Try it in Nyx or London.
So tell us, how will you decorate your nails for February 14?
