Make The First Move – Sadie Hawkins Did

9th Nov 2012 / By Guest Contributor

With Sadie Hawkins Day coming up November 13, I thought it would be a great time to share some creative ways to ask that special someone out on a date. An old-fashioned way of thinking has us believing that the male should make the first move and ‘court’ the female. No matter what your preference is, if you’re crushing on someone, let them know! You know what Mark Twain said: “Twenty years from now, we’ll be more disappointed by the things we didn’t do than by the things we did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Take a page out of his book (pun intended) and go for it. The worst thing that can happen is that the person won’t share the same feelings as you. But at least you’ll know that you tried!

Here are 3 creative ways to make the first move:

1. SEND FOOD

They say the way to a lover’s heart is through their stomach, so call your favorite local pizza delivery place and have them send a pizza with pepperoni in the shape of a heart to your main squeeze’s house. Make sure to pay over the phone with a credit card and include the tip, so it’s all taken care of. Not only is it a sweet way to let anyone (even a boyfriend or girlfriend of 5 years) know you care, but they’ll also love that they don’t have to worry about dinner for that night! Trust me… having surprise food show up at your door from a special someone not only sends butterflies through your stomach, it also fills it with yummy grub!

2. PLAN A CRAZY DATE

Are you  crushing on someone who loves being outdoorsy and adventurous? Check out Groupon.com or LivingSocial.com to find a fun activity you’ll both enjoy. I’ve recently had some really fun dates that were found on these sites, including a tomato battle (think tomato food fight with 2,000 people) and a 5K obstacle course zombie race. Present the date with a cute homemade card and an original riddle. It’s a way to ask the person out on a date, but also make sure they’ll enjoy it. Even if the chemistry isn’t there, you’ll still both have a great time! They’ll also know you’re unique and not only up for the typical dinner and a movie.

3. MAKE A VIDEO

My home is on YouTube, so it’s no secret that I would love this idea. Make a cute video asking your crush to go out with you. It can be to a specific event, like a school dance, or more generic with just a simple date planned. To get brownie points, sing a song (or lip sync if you’re shy), dress up in silly outfits to show your sense of humor, or have your friends participate in the video. Email the link, and you’re ready to go!

P.S. This is actually how I was asked to prom 2 years ago! How perfect for me. LOL.

I hope you enjoyed this! Let me know if you try any of my suggestions out!

XOXO,

Blair
