Step Out (And Up!) In Beautiful Ballet Flats

28th Jul 2012 / By Guest Contributor

This Friday, Step Up Revolution hit theaters, boasting sexy dancers and mind-blowing moves on the big screen. As an ode to the film, I thought I would take a minute to appreciate my favorite dance-inspired apparel so you all can get psyched, and stylish, for this summer flick! As you can probably attest to, ballet flats are one of the most functional and comfortable items to stem from the dance scene. Aside from their obvious benefits—you can run in them, you don’t fall when there’s uneven ground, you get far fewer blisters …the list goes on—they’re also the perfect casual-but-cute look year round. Keep reading for all the deets on which JustFab ballet flats I love and how to wear them this season!

Sometimes I think ballet flats get a bad rap. Yes, they are a little less sexy-mama then a pair of 6-inch stiletto heels, but they’re also about 100 times more comfortable. Plus, they’re super versatile: you can opt for a patent ballet flat for an evening look or go for a suede or printed option for stylish daywear. Ballet flats can be textured, bejeweled, peep toe or simple and classic. Best of all, they keep me, at 6 feet tall, from always being the tallest girl at the party. On that note, I took the liberty of highlighting three of my favorite JustFab ballet flats for the season. Hopefully you’ll agree that between bright colors and posh styling, a ballet flat really can be a girl’s best friend!

LORENZA

I am completely OBSESSED with this flat. Whether you want to go bright and brilliant by choosing her in teal or red, or totally fierce by opting for leopard, Lorenza’s medallion accent and rich coloring makes her an absolute must. Her sleek silhouette is chic with any outfit and enables her to transition easily from casual to classy.

How To Wear Her: Lorenza is adorable with black jeans or leggings because she really pops against the dark shade. Pair her with a patterned top with colorful accents, or try a simple monotone shirt for a more professional look. With a busier outfit, throw on one statement piece of jewelry—earrings, a necklace or a bracelet. If you go for a simpler look, layer long necklaces and add an elegant tote.

FRANKIE

This Ferragamo-esque flat is a stunning choice for a fancier outfit. The bow detail on the toe adds a delicate feminine element to the sophisticated silhouette, and the metal accents make the shoe super en vogue. My favorite thing about Frankie is that she’s a throwback to such a classic and refined style.

How To Wear Her: No matter which color you prefer her in, Frankie can be perfect for a day or nighttime outfit. I love her with a great pair of jeans for a more relaxed look, or with a short dress or skirt for a dinner ensemble. Frankie’s sleek design pairs perfectly with a playful pattern or a boldly cut top or dress. Add metallic accessories that play off the edging on the bow. Finish your look with a delicate cross-body bag that complements the girliness of the shoe.

JALISSA

This shoe’s striped design is awesome for a flirty summer or fall ensemble. The pattern keeps her fun and festive, while the closed toe balances out her bold style. I love that you can wear Jalissa in basic neutral shades like black and white, or go wild by wearing her in neon.

How To Wear Her: Try her with white or denim shorts and a beautiful flowy top. You’ll look cute and pulled together if you match one of your clothing pieces to one of the shades in the shoe, or let the shoe stand out on its own as your outfit’s statement piece. Keep your hair and makeup natural and add chic jewelry for a lovely and ladylike a.m. ensemble.
