It felt like being in style heaven as I walked down New York’s famed 5th Avenue past stores like Christian Dior and Chanel to the mecca of all maternity stores: Destination Maternity. Rosie Pope, maternity expert and star of Bravo’s Pregnant in Heels gathered all of the pretty preggers together to celebrate the launch of her new collection for A Pea in the Pod.
We indulged in yummy Australian licorice, mini chocolate-covered Oreos, and adorable pink British flag vanilla cupcakes all from the colorful Dylan’s Candy Bar. Bartenders served up mommy-to-be friendly mock-tails accented with gummy cherries and lemonheads. The sweets were decadent, the energy alive and the clothes so wearable with plenty of posh wrapped around.
Rosie shared that her life looks a lot more glamorous than it is, and being a working mother of three takes a lot of work. In order to not sacrifice on her style, she designed the collection with the mom-on-the-go in mind.
DAISY: Rosie, like our very own Kimora Lee Simmons, you are a haute mom and an amazing career woman.
ROSIE: Funny story, I used to work retail downstairs for Pea in the Pod. I remember Kimora coming in and buying this bright, bright red silk mini skirt and a gold version.
DAISY: We love the title of your show, Pregnant in Heels, and the women on your show do wear heels. Can you suggest any great heel options for women that are expecting?
ROSIE: Wedges!
DAISY: Ahh, aren’t they a godsend?!
ROSIE: Wedges when you’re pregnant and wedges when you have your baby. When you’re pushing the stroller, it’s not cute if you are stumbling all over. You need stability.
DAISY: What about the mom who just had a baby and is dealing with her new post-baby body? Any style tips for her?
ROSIE: It’s tough when you don’t lose all of the weight right away. So you should really get clothes that hide what you have going on. Pleating is great! And nice pleats are really in. If you can get an empire waist with some pleating, oh yeah!
DAISY: You have gorgeous skin. Do you have any beauty routines or must-haves that you think every woman should have?
ROSIE: One totally free, well, almost free. My grandma taught me. You get one of those atomizers, half water, half whole milk, and spritz. It has to be whole milk. Put it on and let stay for just a little bit, about 30 minutes, and then wipe it off before it gets cheesy. It really works! Any my splurge item is by Clarins called Beauty Flash Balm. I swear by it! You can put a tiny bit on, either under your makeup or over it. After filming, I can always tell when I had it on and when I didn’t. It reflects the light or something.
DAISY: The collection looks great. I’m not even pregnant and I see dresses I would wear!
ROSIE: So I wanted something different here, since I have my own store (Rosie Pope Maternity). I created desk-to-dinner clothing, especially for people who felt like they were on a budget for maternity shopping, which we all really are. You can buy one dress, wear it to work and all the way to date night. So this dress (LBD), the belt comes off. So it’s a sophisticated dress with a little bedazzle.
With looks starting at just under $100, the exclusive capsule collection is available at A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity stores nationwide.
