This past week, the celebrity world has been glitz galore from coast to coast with three major awards events occurring within days of each other. The MTV Movie Awards, held Sunday night in sunny Los Angeles, brought together all sorts of stars to celebrate the best and worst in Hollywood films. Monday evening was host to the CFDA Awards in the Big Apple, with celebrities from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen to Anna Wintour (famed editor-in-chief of Vogue) dazzling on the red carpet. Wednesday, the celeb community went country in Nashville, trading in their high-fashion CFDA ensembles for fun glamour at the CMT Music Awards. Keep reading for our take on these recent red carpet fashions – we’ll tell you all about the new trends that are hot, Hot, HOT!
On the red carpet, stars are always dressing to impress. With each season it seems that a whole new spectrum of gorgeous, chic and sometimes crazy clothing appears before our very eyes! Check out this week’s most popular trends:
1. THE DEEP PLUNGE
Lots of female starlets were seen rocking plunging necklines that revealed beaucoup de cleavage and sometimes even their stomachs! Actress Shailene Woodley appeared at the MTV Movie Awards in a black Stella McCartney double-breasted jumpsuit and matching heels. She really brought sexy back in this cute and daring outfit. Across the country, Rock Of Ages’ Julianne Hough followed suit in New York at the CFDA Awards, showing off an even deeper V in her stunning Chinese red stretch crepe gown by KaufmanFranco. She exuded sophistication by pairing this seductive dress with simple diamond-drop earrings. Hillary Scott, of country music trio Lady Antebellum, also nailed the deep-V look, wearing a black Herve Leger by Max Azria dress and David Webb jewelry at the CMT Music Awards. These ladies sure know how to make bold look its best!
2. THIGH HIGH
Perhaps the most visible trend at the three award ceremonies was lllooonnnnggg dresses with hhiiiiggggghhhh leg slits! Back in February, Angelina Jolie shocked Hollywood when she arrived at the Oscars showing more than a little leg in a stunning black velvet Versace gown that boasted an almost hip-high slit. The fervor surrounding her look helped jump-start the trend that was so popular this week! Ultra-high leg slits were especially evident at the CFDAs, where three leading ladies strutted in this fierce and foxy trend. Zoe Saldana looked like a glamour goddess in her black Prabal Gurung gown and shoes with Cartier jewelry. The dress’ translucent bottom made the leg slit especially eye-catching and beautiful. Singer Mandy Moore also channeled this skin-showing style, shining in her white Lela Rose dress complete with embellished shoulders. She paired the gown with an Edie Parker silver metallic clutch, Prada shoes and jewelry by Adler, Misaki and Norman Silverman. Former One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush rounded out the tremendous trio at the CFDA Awards in a bright orange David Meister Signature gown, which she paired with Christian Louboutin heels, a Daniel Swarovski clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Hey, if you’ve got it, flaunt it!
3. SPRINGTIME FLORAL
Floral patterns also made a fabulous display this week, ranging from Asian-inspired to tropical to vintage. The Office actress Ellie Kemper made waves in LA in her patterned Dolce & Gabbana dress, Alexander McQueen pumps and JustFab’s Falsetto clutch. Her casual look was made super cute by adding a touch of neon with her accessories. Dakota Fanning took floral to a whole new level at the CFDAs,wearing a semi-kimono dress by Proenza Schouler. She wore black lace-up wedge heels from the same designer and carried a silver metallic clutch by, you guessed it, Proenza Schouler. At the CMT Music Awards, Hayden Panettiere really stole the show in her fitted cream Praven skirt, floral-adorned Giorgio Armani top and Christian Louboutin heels. These three women demonstrated that floral is fresh and fabulous no matter which style you prefer!
4. METALLIC SPARKLE & SHINE
And what red carpet round-up would be complete without mentioning the stars’ go-to fashion choice: metallic sequin dresses?! Twilight star Nikki Reed appeared at the MTV Movie Awards in a gold beaded Randi Rahm dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, a Pierre Hardy clutch and Vanessa Leu earrings. The little cutout in the center of the dress helped heighten the glam factor of Nikki’s chic look. Rachel Zoe wowed in NYC in a floor-length, black sequin dress from her own collection and a matching clutch. The ebony liquid sparkle made her a total knockout on Monday’s scarlet strip. In Nashville, Video of the Year winner Carrie Underwood took silver to the next level in a short Randi Rahm frock with a black crystal Swarovski clutch, Glu Diev booties and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. She said that she was channeling her inner disco ball! These spectacular beauties really lit up the scene in their sexy, shimmering dresses!
Which look do you prefer? Are you daring enough to try one of the skin-baring styles or more apt to go traditional with the twinkle?
