Introducing…The Wedge

6th Jun 2012 / By Guest Contributor

Summer is officially here and it’s time to celebrate the warm weather and sunny skies! Undoubtedly you’ll be spending much more time outdoors, whether it’s visiting with friends and family, hanging at the beach, going to the park, or hosting a cookout in your backyard. This summer is all about matching your new playful attitude with a new playful style. Enter: The Wedge. No matter the occasion, wedge heels are the perfect option to spruce up any outfit and take your style from cute-but-conventional to totally breathtaking.

Wedge heels sometimes get a bad rap for being the “difficult” shoe in the closet. How do you wear a shoe that has both formal and informal elements? Isn’t it a little clunky for a dress? Can you really make a wedge heel look chic? Don’t panic!–I’m here to help you sort out the confusion so you can wear these must-haves with complete fashion-forward confidence.

First of all, don’t think of the wedge as a standard style. This season is all about taking risks and mixing different patterns, colors and textures, so take advantage of the wedges’ versatility and add a little flair to your wardrobe. If you prefer a more timeless style, consider wearing a wedge with a raffia heel such as Izzy. She’s classy, yet fun, and perfect with a cute sundress or a pair of white jeans and a floral flowy top. The closed toe keeps the shoe looking totally chic, and the raffia heel makes it perfect for summer, all without looking too clunky. If you want a different twist, but similarly refined style, go for Gertrude. Her cork heel and strappy sandal design make this shoe awesome with shorts and a fitted tee. Throw on a cardigan for a more sophisticated look, and you have the perfect brunch or lunch attire!

If you’re feeling a little spicy, Emmeline and Marie are going to be more your flavor. Emmeline‘s colorblocked heel makes her a great fit with an LBD, transforming your favorite black basic into a modern, high-fashion piece. Throw on some long necklaces or bangles to add a dash of flash to this already posh look. Marie steps up your foxy factor one more notch, injecting a pop of animal print into your outfit. I love wearing her with a white and black mixture–you can go white skinny jeans and a black shirt, or black skinny jeans and a white shirt–both are fabulous and bring out the colors of the shoes! Add some gold jewelry to highlight the earthy undertones in the leopard-print wedge, and you’re set to show off your wild side!

Wedge heels are definitely one of the season’s must-haves. Will you be a daring diva and test out this fantastic style?
