Metallic details and bright colors go together like peanut butter and jelly, Brad and Angelina, swimsuits and sunscreen. This brilliant combo blends the best of both worlds: intense shades liven up any look and are so on-season, while the glamor associated with anything that shimmers elevates an outfit from low-key to lavish. Check out a few of my favorite shoes that fuse the luminous with the lustrous.
This first thing I did on April 1 was buy Clementine! I got her in fuchsia, and I’m absolutely smitten. The saturated shade is the perfect pink hue, while the matching metallic trim gives any look an understated dash of flash. Plus, I’m a total sucker for platform peep toe pumps. I keep buying more regardless of how many similar styles are already in my closet! So far I’ve worn her with a pair of navy trousers and a neon geometric-print top. But I plan to wear her again; this time with a magenta and purple skirt – clearly, I’m not afraid of color. And I’m sure I can find more outfits to pair her with. If not, I have no problem going shopping to find something new!
If you’re less matchy-matchy than me, then go with Clementine in orange or yellow. The gold trim on citrus shades provides a sleek contrast that’s ideal for taking your look from day to night. Wear her with an LBD for a bold burst of color or refresh this season’s pastels by adding a shoe in a high-voltage hue.
For those FABshionistas who are still testing the colorblock trend’s waters, Ursala is an excellent option. Nothing screams warm weather and sunny days like a hot pink and juicy orange high heel. The mix of two tones from the same color family is easy on the eyes. Throw on a metallic toe cap, and I’m in heaven. It provides the perfect pinch of polish. You could easily wear this closed platform heel to work with neutral separates or hit the club in a dress that’s a radiant as she is.
A little sheen goes a long way. But if both of these styles are still a little loud for your taste, then try Renee. Her lush aqua hue follows spring’s nod to oceanic influences, and the platform’s silver streak gives this peep toe pump a smidge of glitz.
What’s your vote? Will you wear Clementine, Ursala or Renee, or pass on this trend altogether?
