Las Vegas went a little bit country this past weekend as Nashville’s biggest stars hit town to celebrate the Academy of Country Music Awards. Hosted by The Voice’s Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, the evening was nothing short of spectacular complete with stand-out performances, surprise winners and stunning fashion. The red carpet showcased some of spring’s hottest trends including black and white, floral details and shades of blue. But which sassy songstress deserves to be crowned Best Dressed?
Country music style often features a lot of bling, and the ACM’s scarlet strip was no exception. But the leading ladies kept it under control and en vogue.
BLACK & WHITE
Traditionally we see a lot of bright, bold colors for spring, but the classic combo of black and white can be just as brilliant. Taylor Swift, who took home the award for Best Video for Highway Don’t Care with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban, dared to bare some skin by pairing a white crop top with a long black skirt that had a slit cut up to there. Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman took a more conservative approach with a sleek strapless sheath. But it was Jewel to who really wowed in a floor-length Georage Chakra gown with lace details.
What’s sexier than showing skin? Donning a skin-colored dress, of course! Miranda Lambert, undoubtedly the night’s big winner (she took home awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year) flaunted her slimmer figure in a curve-hugging gown by Randi Rahm. Carrie Underwood opted for an ivory Oscar de la Renta gown adorned with shimmering fringe, while newcomer and The Voice winner Danielle Bradbery selected a nude sequined dress with a sheer skirt.
SHADES OF BLUE
But the event wasn’t completely devoid of color. Among the nude hues and black and white contrasts was a sea of blue. Country music veteran Faith Hill looked fabulous in a tasteful pale blue gown from Saint Laurent. Album of the Year winner Kacey Musgraves took a cue from her elders in a floor-skimming baby blue dress by Miu Miu. But it was Shakira’s navy Zuhair Murad number with cool cutouts that stole the spotlight. And even though it’s not technically ‘blue,’ Kellie Pickler received many fashion accolades for her lavender Romona Keveza gown. Simple, yet striking, the sweetheart neckline paired with the ombre treatment made this dress elegantly edgy.
No spring fling would be complete without a few floral details, so thank you Martina McBride and Shawna Thompson for following this fad. McBride opted for a form-fitting David Meister column gown that featured a black floral pattern over a nude background. Thompson kept the nude theme, but traded dark embellishments for bright red appliques.
What did you think about the show and its fabulous fashion? Who had the best dress?
