Well, I guess it’s that time. Time to ‘fess up and admit that magazine workouts probably do work… if you actually follow the program. Fabshionistas, I won’t lie to you. I got through 2.5 sessions of this ab workout before I gave up completely.
First, I want you all to know that before I chose this Two Week Ab Makeover Workout from Fitness, I flipped through a lot of magazines trying to find a program I knew I would be physically able to do, as well as one that targeted an area of my body that I truly wanted to work on. So when I found Wow Abs Now, I thought it looked challenging, but doable. I was wrong.
After the second exercise I wanted to throw in the towel, but I powered through. Twenty-five minutes later when I finally finished the 8 moves, plus 3 rounds of cardio, I was seriously regretting my decision. The moves were definitely more complex than traditional crunches, which is the point. They’re intended to challenge the body and target muscles you may not otherwise be able to engage.
I expected things to be easier on Day 2 (the first time is always the toughest, right?). Some of the moves were slightly easier, but the truth is, some, like Ballerina Abs and the Kneeling Side Crunch, were so complicated, I was more concerned about doing them without falling over than doing them effectively. Plus, I’m used to doing 10 or 15 reps… some of these moves required 30 reps… ON EACH SIDE!
But I will give Fitness credit… not only did they publish the article in the print issue, but the video on their site was incredibly helpful. They even highlighted the script along with the voiceover so you could watch the demonstration and/or read along.
I’ve now returned to my regular workout routine, which consists mostly of indoor cycling and circuit-training classes. I’m just not motivated enough to workout solo. Better luck next time, I guess.
What about you? Did anyone give the workout a try and success?
