It’s A Man’s World

6

Menswear is one of those trends that just won’t die, so if you haven’t incorporated it into your wardrobe yet, what are you waiting for? Know that it’s possible to wear pieces borrowed from the boys without looking like one. Here are a few of my favorite ladylike ways to wear menswear for fall.

OH-SO-OVERSIZED COAT

Oversized Coats On The Runway

Outerwear is a huge trend for fall, and oversized, boxy boyfriend coats were shown at Stella McCartney, Marni, Chloe and Alexander Wang. Sporting one of these toppers is a very polished and on-trend way to keep with the menswear vibe. Add ladylike touches by adding height to your ensemble with a stiletto heel (like Celia) or by selecting a coat in a pretty pastel shade – another hot fall trend.

THE ’90s CALLED

Ankle Boots With '90s Inspired Separates

A little menswear-inspired ankle boot (like Abbie or Linden) can be easily thrown on and worn with a multitude of looks. Pair it with a sweater and long skirt in a nod to the ’90s style that is coming back around for fall. You want a little bit of a heel with a look like this so that you don’t come off looking too shlumpalicious.

FLAT OUT SEXY

Menswear Inspired Flats

When you’re wearing an overtly sexy outfit like a mini skirt or short shorts, wearing flats ensures you stay on the sexy side without crossing the line into trashy. A little menswear-inspired oxford flat (like Graham or Arlow) is the perfect way to balance out a skimpier style and keep your look grounded.

SHE’S A LADY

Ladylike Styles With A Loafer Pump

Ladylike glamour was rampant all over the fall runways – peplum tops, polka dots, full skirts and reinterpretations of Dior’s New Look could be found at shows like Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, Miu Miu and many others. A feminine version of a masculine shoe (like Margherita) is perfect for wearing with these ultra girly looks.

SCHOOL’S IN SESSION

Scholarly Satchel

A crossbody classic school satchel (like The Graduate) is an easy weekend bag. I love it paired with a relaxed oversized sweater, black skinny pants and a boyfriend coat, a la Annie Hall. Just be sure not to interpret this look too literally, or someone might stop and ask you where the biology lecture is.
