Let’s hear it for the moms! As Mother’s Day got closer, I began thinking about the indelible mark that our moms leave on us throughout our lives.
Growing up in St. Louis, I was a fish out of water. I was too tall, too loud and had a point of view not too common for kids my age. When other people looked at me, they saw someone who looked out of place. But when my mom looked at me, she saw a star – like all moms do. It was my mom who enrolled me in modeling classes as a girl to strengthen my posture, poise and self-esteem.
Who knew that it would lead me to the career I have today? I feel the same hope when I look at my own kids. I know all moms do. It’s our job to see the best of all possible worlds through our children. It’s our job to inspire and encourage them and to try to see the world through their yes. This Mother’s Day, thank your mom – or any mom – for her sacrifices and courage. It’s the hardest job in the world, but it’s also the most fab!
