Fall is never short on fabulous fashion, and this season does not disappoint. Fashion Week showed us rich color palettes, mixed patterns and sophisticated, layered looks. These trends were spotted on runways everywhere and even popped up on nails! We saw clean, chic nail lacquers ranging from deep, rich variations of red, blue, green and purple to pale neutrals like white, soft gold and pink. It would seem like your best accessory this season is nail polish!
Dark, sultry shades of burgundy and navy walked the runways at Catherine Malandrino, Milly and Karen Walker. These ‘almost black’ nails were created by layering several dark colors on top of one another. For a sophisticated, unexpected shade that is perfect for evening, try layering an emerald hue on top of black polish.
Tibi, Herve Leger, Victoria Beckham and Nahm featured minimalist tones of white and pale pink, while Donna Karan and Thakoon featured nouveau French manicures featuring nude hues with black, red and lace tips. For the best nude, pick a nail color with similar pigmentation to your skin tone. For example, if you have a pinkish skin tone, pick a pinkish nude.
Whimsical nail art also made an appearance on the runways at Nicole Miller, Rachel Antonoff and The Blonds.
I love the drama of this season’s nail trends, but my favorite thing about fall 2012 has to be the launch of Black Diamond Nail Polish from Azature! The Black Diamond King and celeb jewelry designer created the world’s most expensive nail polish! Priced at $250,000, the one-of-a-kind polish is infused with 267 carats of black diamonds.
Lucky for us, he also came out with an affordable line available exclusively at Fred Segal/Ron Robinson. Each bottle of this luxurious polish has one black diamond inside. Azature created a truly innovative new product that not only works as a nail polish, but also works as a nail polish accessory! This means that you can take any nail polish you own and top it with Azature’s black diamond polish for a look that really pops! It is a great way to add a little luxury to every day. I recommend layering it on top of deep red, black or charcoal grey for stand-out sparkle and shine. As always, it is best to use a high-shine top coat, like Seche Vite to lock your lacquer in place.
