Totally Savage: A Peek At Blake Lively’s Style

Totally Savage Fashion

As we all know, Blake Lively is one classy, talented and stunning lady. In Hollywood, it’s rare to find someone who consistently looks runway-ready, but Blake somehow makes it happen, from street style to red carpet couture. Since her new movie Savages is set to debut tomorrow, we thought we’d take a look at this icon’s favorite fashion trends so we can try to look just as fierce as she does!

Blake definitely loves to take fashion risks and test out new trends. Her statement-making wardrobe is enviable, but it also seems like it would be impossible to replicate…right? Wrong! We at JustFab have identified a few of her signature looks. Put your own spin on her fave trends to enhance your style!

Trying to go floral can be a major struggle. All those rosebuds and flower-power patterns can turn a dress with a cute silhouette into a total eye-distracting disaster. Take a cue from Blake, who makes floral embellishments an absolute must. In February at the Godiva Valentine’s Day Contest, Blake wore a blue and white Valentino dress with textured floral detailing. She added pointed-toe pumps by Christian Louboutin to finish her feminine and refined look. We’ve also seen Blake make floral quite flashy, as she did at the 2011 CinemaCon Awards. She donned a stunning, floral-bodiced red Marchesa gown paired with Brian Atwood heels. Earlier that year at the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Gala, she tried a different take on the trend, wearing a plum Marchesa dress with a floral, crocheted neckline and floral construction on the shoulders. Her T-strap Burberry heels added a sleek, modern touch to her bold dress and turquoise jewelry. And looking back even further, Blake kept with the floral crocheted theme, wearing a feathered Marchesa mini with an asymmetrical, floral-designed shoulder to the premiere of Where the Wild Things Are. (Blake must REALLY love Marchesa’s styling!) Her nude platform pumps kept this eye-catching dress from looking over-the-top, letting Blake’s natural beauty shine.

TRY IT: Pair a textured, floral-embroidered piece with simple accessories in a complementary color. The pattern and texture of your statement piece will create plenty of visual interest, so go for more delicate shoes and accessories for a sleek, Blake-inspired look.

When it comes to color, Blake never holds back. Over the years, we’ve seen her rock pretty much every solid shade on the color wheel. Most recently, the Gossip Girl starlet wore a neon pink Lanvin dress with nude, Christian Louboutin heels backstage at ABC Studios. Her flirty, bowed frock was absolutely adorable, and her skin-tone heels made her already amazing legs look even longer. At the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, Blake went a similar route, choosing an orange leather Gucci dress with simple, gold Christian Louboutin heels. The form-fitting dress showed off her banging body, while her classic shoes complemented the dress’s hue and her glowing skin. She went with sunshine colors yet again at the Green Lantern press conference last summer, wearing a bright yellow Chloe frock, which she belted and paired with Brian Atwood heels. In this case, Blake’s black pumps created a strong contrast with her vibrant dress, making a bold statement without taking away from her look. Just two days earlier at the MTV Movie Awards, she tried another primary color, wowing in a royal blue cutout Michael Kors dress. She stayed in the cool color family, choosing magenta Christian Louboutin heels that added a playful, youthful element to her ensemble.

TRY IT: Go for a solid-colored dress in a flattering silhouette—any color and style that makes you feel happy and confident. If you choose a really vivid shade, wear a simple shoe. If you choose a dress in a primary or secondary color, try a heel on the same side of the spectrum that will pop against the statement shade.

For red carpet events, Blake really knows how to take elegance to the next level. She frequently opts for sheer, flowing fabrics and gowns with Grecian elements. She stunned at the 2011 BAFTA Brits To Watch Event in a spectacular, floor-sweeping Marchesa gown with an asymmetrical shoulder. She wore silver Christian Louboutin heels that looked positively ravishing with the sparkling accents on the dress. Just two months prior at the 2011 MET Gala, the blonde bombshell wore another dress cut on a bias, this time a Chanel creation with Grecian draping from shoulder to hip. She wore strappy Christian Louboutin heels that matched the sheer fabric on the dress, giving off a sensual, mature impression. At the TIME 100 Gala last February, Blake went in a slightly different direction, choosing a Zuhair Murad mermaid-inspired gown. She paired it with simple Christian Louboutin heels and a large cocktail ring, letting the figure-flaunting dress do all the talking. One of her most-remembered looks is the teal Versace gown she wore to the 2009 MET Gala. The ultra-low, V-cut neckline and thigh-high slit were extremely dramatic, so Blake kept the rest of her attire rather minimalist. She chose strappy gold heels and a sleek bun as the accents to this impressive look.

TRY IT: If you’re going to a fancyshmancy black tie event, a long, soft evening gown like those Blake so often wears could be your perfect choice. Many of these dresses come in bold colors or have dramatic elements, whether it’s a leg slit, an asymmetrical cut, or major bling, so wear a shoe that is complementary to your sophisticated look, not spotlight-stealing. If your gown is more simple, however, feel free to experiment with a daring heel in a metallic or jewel tone.

Whether Blake is heading to a more casual occasion or a high-fashion event, she never forgets to bring the bling with metallic accents. At the January Haywire screening hosted by Blackberry and The Cinema Society, Blake rocked a short silver-sequined Dolce & Gabbana dress with textured tights and Matiko wedge ankle boots. The shine from the top of the dress really stood out against the dark bottoms, helping this knockout make an impact without trying too hard. At a Sprinkles charity event just a few months earlier, Blake wore a sheer white Gucci top and an iridescent gold Gucci skirt. Her deep green Brian Atwood pumps were a fun addition to the outfit, while their almost-black hue kept them super classy. But Blake doesn’t just choose separates with understated metallic influences. In 2009 at the HBO Post-Emmy Party, she rocked a liquid-black full-sequin Balmain dress and black Jimmy Choo heels. Her emerald green earrings brought out the color of her eyes, and majorly popped against her ultra-sexy mini-dress. In 2008 at the CW’s UpFront party, Blake went with a champagne-colored Dolce & Gabbana metallic frock and black peep-toe pumps. The body-hugging dress looked stylish and refined, while her long, layered necklaces added a playful pop.

TRY IT:  When you wear metallic apparel, it’s always best to choose a modest heel that won’t clash with your ensemble or distract your audience. Steal a note from Ms. Lively: pick one head-turning piece and work around it, keeping your other accessories minimal. Do get daring with metallics, however! As long as you bring an attitude that matches your show-stopping ensemble, you’ll be sure nail the look.
