Rachel Bilson’s Style: The Quintessential Girly Girl

Rachel Bilson's Style

Audiences first fell in love with Rachel Bilson back in 2003 when she starred as resident mean girl Summer Roberts in The OC. This fall, she returned to the small screen to play the title role in her own series, Hart of Dixie. But even during her few years of ‘downtime,’ industry insiders continued to praise the LA native for her enviable sense of style: staying true to the trends while maintaining her trademark girl-next-door appeal. To mark the release of her latest film, L!fe Happens, tomorrow, we took a look at what makes Bilson’s fashion so fabulous.

It’s true that ladylike details have been en vogue for several seasons now, and Bilson has certainly embraced them! From ruffles and frills to feathers and lace, this Tinseltown trendsetter is taking full advantage of the feminine fad. At the beginning of the year, she attended The Art of Elysium Annual Heaven Gala wearing an embroidered dress from Chanel. Feather details and a muted shade of mint kept her aesthetic soft, while intricate beadwork provided a pinch of sparkle. A Chanel clutch and Casadei pumps completed this classic look. While in the Big Apple, Bilson created the ultimate on-duty to off-the-clock outfit by adding a Vanessa Bruno blazer to her Suno dress. Skin-tone Mary Janes by Christian Louboutin only enhanced her understated innocence. This preference for nude hues extends into her apparel, too. She selected a frilly blush frock from Erin Fetherston for a premiere party last fall. An Edie Parker clutch added a pop of color, but champagne Giuseppe Zanotti heels made her legs look miles long.

Bilson is the queen of mixing menswear tailoring with girly details. Her go-to article of clothing: a jacket – any jacket. As I mentioned above, by adding a blazer to her lacy dress in NYC, she created the perfect look for shifting seamlessly from office to outing. She worked her magic again at Chanel’s Pre-Oscar party in February, when she paired her ruffle-accented Chanel sheath with an Alexa Chung for Madewell moto jacket. The contrast of sweet and tough is right on par with the starlet herself. She reached for Vanessa Bruno once more on Fashion’s Night Out. The structure of her tux-inspired jacket offset the carefree quality of her long maxi skirt.

While neutrals may be popular with this A-lister, she has been known to brighten her style with a bold pair of pants. Just last month she was spotted at an event in Santa Monica wearing cherry red trousers from Isabel Marant. What did she wear on top? A black and white Vanessa Bruno blazer and tank, of course! The fiery hue of these wide-leg pants brought a fresh energy to stale staples. A few months before, she was snapped sporting spring’s must-have hue – coral. Vibrant slacks and a floral-print blouse by Erdem looked simultaneously playful and professional. Plus, colored denim will be the season’s ‘it’ apparel. Leopard print heels by Christian Louboutin proved that you can mix prints within an outfit; you just need to provide a substantial amount of separation between them.

So what’s your take on Bilson’s girly garb? Are you a fan or not-so-much?
